DocShield is a document backup and most importantly a version tracker utility which helps users monitoring defined system folders for any performed changes. The program automatically creates compressed backups or the archives being watched.
The program interface consists of a single window with 4 tabs from where users select which archives or files to monitor as well as some options such as: quantity of file snapshots to store, also set exclusions, on-the-fly compression, and FTP backup.
To avoid archives growing out of control, DocShield uses highly compressed archives and has a system for managing archive sizes. It requires the user to decide where the file backups are located and how many MB to allocate to it. In addition it can either prompt the user for action when the archive size is exceeded or act based on the settings.
FTP archiving is the best feature. It enables users to archive documents remotely on an FTP server. Furthermore, it has the ability of updating files that are located over the network, to any desired location.
DocShield runs quietly in the background scanning the defined files at configurable intervals while adding detected changes updating the snapshots from last check.
The program is not designed to back up an entire system, but it does indeed help saving important documents to different locations.
